Default Help Needed With RD Citation

Hi Guys, My Escort 9500ix has recently cost me a citation in two forms. I'll number them below:

Part 1; Ka Radar; I75 heading south in Pasco county FL, 7.30pm so it was dark. I was overtaking a semi truck with my cruise set to 83, GPS recorded speed of 80. Had a car in front of me which was about 500 ft away that looked like a regular car, suddenly RD went off to max, I hit the brakes to find the car was a trooper. Damn i think, oh well lucky i wasn't going too quick, I'm sure he's not pulling me over. Anyway i pass the truck and move to the right lane (only a two lane carriageway), suddenly the trooper hits the brakes swings in behind me and lights me up. I'm like, "your kidding me". Anyway I was polite and cooperative, but it didn't help a damn bit. 80 in a 70= $204 fine plus 3 points. I thought well I’ll take it on the chin and take this as a lesson, even though I thought he was being extremely harsh. The guy was obviously on a mission to get as much as possible that night.

Part 2; Windshield citation: Just as he was telling me about my violation he looked up at my windshield and said that’s a non moving violation for the radar detector. I asked “are RD illegal in FL?” He said “No, but TV’s, GPS’s, Radar detectors are a violation for being stuck to the screen, only things allowed o the screen are sunpass toll units”. I was pissed at this point, but bit my tongue and took the $114 citation for this too.
I considered pulling it from the screen before I came to a stop but decided to just unplug it so it would not be beeping at him, and figured as they were legal what’s to be gained by hiding it? What a mistake that was!

The reason for my post is I’m seriously considering going to court for the RD citation as I feel it’s completely unjust. The violation is in section: 316.2952.2, comments relating to case state: “Improper device attached”.
From the drivers seat it’s not an obstruction at all as it’s virtually hidden by the mirror. I called the court to find out some more info and they’ve never had that citation ever issued before in their county. Thinking taking pictures of the unit in place from the driving seat and blowing them up to show the judge that there's no obstruction, plus pleading ignorance etc.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this and any tips you could give to prepare for the hearing…?

Thanks as always

Been there.

Not too long ago, I experienced a similar situation in NJ from a NJ state trooper.

I requested a court date and when the day came I was able to successfully able to have the obstruction of windshield citation thrown out and the speed reduced to five over.

Perhaps you should try the same.
