This morning, to celebrate one more year of life I decided to take the day off from work. In my free time I decided to do some "speed trap hunting"...
This week, and through Memorial Day, the New York State Police have decided to step up patrols all over to combat aggressive drivers, speeders and, yes, tailgaters. On my journeys this morning and early this afternoon along Interstate 290 I saw multiple troopers running constant-on Stalker, with a few of them running the Ultralyte 100LR. One turn around area before Niagara Falls Blvd featured a NYSP Blazer with not one but two cruisers on the shoulder. This is where my story comes to play. On my last run (about 12:30-1:00) I decided to see if I could get painted. So off I go, driving around 70-75 MPH (PSL is 55) with my STi mounted low on my windshield this time (I normally have it high mounted in a visor case). As I came up on the area I just described, I hung back a little bit from the other traffic to make sure I was the only one in his sights...then LASER ALERT!!! It was a good 5-6 second hit by the trooper in the Blazer. I happened to catch the look on his face briefly as I passed by...not happy. Needless to say, his posse didn't follow me either. Score one more victory for VEIL!!!
Nice save, gotta love the veil product. We have tested it before on a F-150 and it did really good. Score one for the veil Guy
Thanks man. The only countermeasures that I have for laser defense right now are my STi Driver, a LaserShield and VEIL G4. What helps with my situation is that my car is dark green (officially Augusta Green to Buick). I have at least 3 coats of VEIL G4 on my HL's, and one coat of G2 from last year on my LaserShield. I also spraypainted the grille of my car with flat black paint. I know my camcorder's NightShot function isn't as good as VG's MILSPEC device, but looking at the front of my car through that I can see pretty much zero reflectivity. If I were ever down your way could I be a "test dummy" for you?
Here is a dark green honda accord with no Veil and a Blinder M25 J16 rev on it. Color makes a huge difference. If we would have applied Veil to the head lights it would have been JTG on the Pro Laser III runs. Heres the footage:

From all of the before and after vids which I have seen, Veil does indeed make a huge difference in improving laser jammer performance. Just how much of an improvement, like Steagall says, depends on your vehicle color. Regardless, Veil significantly lowers the IR signature of any color car.
