Camera Fraud Article: Encanto Signature Gathering Event

The number of signatures keeps rising

The number of signatures keeps rising

At the Encanto Palmcroft Home Tour, hundreds of people eagerly signed CameraFRAUD.com’s petition to ban Photo Enforcement in Arizona. It was a great event, the weather was mild, there was live music, and we met lots of interesting and creative people. Most importantly, just a handful of CameraFRAUD.com volunteers were needed to bring us hundreds of signatures closer to our goal.

It’s interesting to see how CameraFRAUD.com’s mission, method, and focus have evolved over the months. In the beginning, it was about waving signs at intersections and working with the media to create awareness. More, and larger protests followed, and soon people were honking in support as they drove past CameraFRAUD.com’s trademark homemade styrofoam signs all over the valley. In addition to local media, CameraFRAUD caught the attention of national media and bloggers all over the country. CameraFRAUD.com was growing, and established chapters in Tucson and Washington DC. Inspired by CameraFRAUD.com’s efforts, other anti photo enforcement groups began to form, such as Don’t Flash Me Bro in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Realizing that more needed to be done than just waving signs, CameraFRAUD.com introduced a Citizen’s Ballot Initiative. Holding a press conference in front of the State Capitol, CameraFRAUD.com announced the initiative to a dozen news cameras and scores of supporters. Newly elected Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu spoke in support of the initiative, and was the first to sign it. Other politicians were onhand to voice their support, specifically Ron Gould and Russell Pearce. Other politicians took notice and began introducing legislation to severly limit the use of automated photo enforcement in Arizona. Last week, Sam Crump’s HB 2106 was passed by the House Appropriations Committee.

Much has been accomplished in just a few short months, and volunteers with CameraFRAUD.com have risen to each challenge. We’re still a long way from our desired goal, but we’re not behind schedule either. As the Information War from Redflex and DPS will no doubt soon be upon us, CameraFRAUD.com will grow and evolve to meet those challenges as well.
