Default Have a 9500ix...looking to marry it to a laser jammer

Hello...this is my first post as I just joined moments ago. After doing a lot of lurking research on many websites, I opted for the 9500ix (its features, capabilities, and limitations were right for me) to protect my Dodge Challenger SRT-8. This is the first radar detector I've ever owned.

I know I want laser protection on my Challenger. In addition to Veil G4, I am leaning towards a Blinder. I would consider the ZR4 as well based on some real world experiences I've read on forums and the fact that an Escort authorized dealer/installer is around the block from me.

My question: What specifically does "Shift + Link" do for me? I understand the ZR4 can integrate with the 9500ix but I'm confused on what the benefits are of doing so.

To break it down further...I'm assuming the Blinder would give me an audio alert once I'm hit with laser to slow down. Once Blinder alerts of a laser, I'm going to slow down. It doesn't need to be linked to my 9500ix to get my attention. Does the ZR4 linking actually serving a purpose to provide better or more efficient protection?

Thanks for any help. I tried searching these forums on "Shift Link" benefits but I guess it was too noob a question nobody needed it answered.

I actually have a 9500ci installed, not specifically a ZR4 so I am venturing some educated guesses here.

The "linking" would likely allow the alerts to come through the detector, itself, display/audio.

I would also expect the smartcode of the 9500ix (which has a mute button) to be able to control the ZR4 directly, like double-tapping the mute button to temporarily disable the jamming function (once your speed was appropriately adjusted).

The systems could certainly be run separately (like the Blinder), however, I suspect you would then need to add the control/display module to your instrument cluster somewhere.

I suspect integration (linking) would basically reduce the overall equipment "clutter" in your vehicle.

As STH stated the integration of the ZR4 and 9500ix allow for both units to function as one....STH will probably disagree because I know he is a fan of the ZR4 and there is nothing wrong with that but in my testing the ZR4 does not have the level of performance as the Blinder. It really comes down to preference. STH has had great success in world encounters with the ZR4 so he is pleased.
The Blinder would act as a stand alone unit from your Radar Detector and would give its own audible and visual alerts to laser detection. Either would a fine choice for protection but in independent testing by The Guys of LIdar the Blinder did outperform the Zr4.

BG,

That really wasn't his question. I believe redleg's question was more about integration concerns.

I believe when Veil is added to the mix the relative performance of any laser jammer is less important. I've driven with both a Blinder and a ZR4 with Veil and that has been my experience in the real world.

Alone differences in jammer performance may be noticeable, but with Veil, less so, if at all.
