My friend just got one of these detectors, and loves it.

I think he paid $109.00 for it.

The Whistler XTR-695 is a terrific radar detector.

Sounds like he got it below Whistler's MAP and, therefore, may have come with a mfr. voided warranty...

I bought the XTR695 back in mid-November (this year, '08) and did a lot of research beforehand, including looking at a lot of prices. I think you may be mistaken on the model, I don't think he purchased the XTR695 for $109, unless he bought a unit from an individual selling one used. Street prices I've seen are mostly in the $150-$180 range, and even at the upper end of that price spread, the unit is still a bargain. I love a good deal as much as the next guy, but I'd be really afraid to buy one selling that far below normal price.

Yes, I completely agree with you Steve. Purchasing the 695 for that amount is certainly getting one that is likely gray marketed and comes at the risk of loss of warranty.

Like you, I'd stick with a respectable and knowledgeable dealer like BuyRadarDetectors or RadarBusters. Why risk saving a few pennies given the value that you'll get from long-time ownership.
