Default Whistler XTR-695SE/XTR-690SE & Whistler Pro-78SE Review

I am very pleased that the much anticipated new Whistler Pro-78SE, Whistler XTR-690SE, and Whistler XTR-695SE models will soon be making their way into the marketplace.

For 2009, these three related Whistler radar detector models are expected to have improved Ka and police-laser reception performance.

As has been the case in the recent past, Whistler has afforded me the privilege of an advanced look at their new flagship model line-up.

I have taken each of them for an extended drive through a number states and pitted them against a variety of traffic enforcement methods to determine how much improved the new Whistler XTR-695SE, Whistler XTR-690SE, and Whistler Pro-78 SE models are over their predecessors.

My formal review follows:
I hope you enjoy the read.

Default XTR-690SE question??

I was watching one of many video's on this model (XTR-690SE) on you tube and one did this he had X band turned off and came across a high concentration of X band and it picked it up as K band and when he had X and K band on it picked it up as X band any idea's why????

Thanks

Do you happen to know if there was only one door opener or if there were multiple door openers?

Multiple door openers will cause additional information on the alarm lines that can cause a mis-read.

As K band is a valid threat, if the unit determines the threat could be X or K and you have X band shut off, it will choose to give you the K band alert.

If X had been on and it determined the threat as X first, it will alarm X.
Once alarming X, it will not change to K even if it is hit with K.
If it is alarming K, the unit will not change to X even if hit with X.
This prevents band changing from X to K and back to X, then back to K, and so on when in areas of multiple door openers.

If alarming X or K and hit with Ka, the SE models will change to Ka.
