Default Is Veil really worth it on flip up headlights?

I have a 91 MR2 and it has really dark parking lamps. Is Veil really worth it for a small low profile car with hidden headlights and no front license plate? Could you apply the product to the 3M 303 paint protectant film and get the same results? Do cops ever use laser at night? I live in Missouri and they haven't really started to use laser only in Branson so I better get schooled as my trust radar detector might be outdated pretty quick.

MR2NR,

Take my answer with a grain of salt...I am biased, of course (or a true believer, take your pick).

Years ago I had a Honda Prelude (red) with flip down lights, however parking lamps and other reflective objects like that still contributed to my laser cross section...In this case Veil made a difference.

I still own a Black Vette ('91). It too has flip down lights and during the day, the benefit of Veil is not as much as compared to vehicles which have exposed lights.

If you have more than one vehicle in your family, of course, Veil can treat all of them.

The visible color of parking lamps being dark doesn't mean that it will not reflect lidar in a big way. CP tested this out several years ago with dark license plate covers and found them to be totally ineffective at reducing police laser reflections in the NIR even though they appeared dark in the VIS spectrum.

Police routinely laser at night and in this case VEIL can be a real life saver provided you pay attention to your detector's alerts (like staying off the darn cell phone!): Veil Guy: Mess with the Bull, Get the Horns

I was just in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska a couple of weeks ago but did not encounter any police laser luckily in my rented 300C. During this trip I drove with my trusty Valentine One as well as my Beltronics STi Driver.

May sure you have a good laser detector. If you are not sure which ones can do the trick, please check out this review of them. Since this review, I would also add the Whistler Pro 78 and Whistler XTR 690 to the list of detectors which do a good job at spotting laser quickly.

Which radar detector(s) do you own? And what color is your vehicle? Your MR2 profile should be advantageous to you, btw. Do you have any PICs of the front? Does MO require a front plate?

Hope this feedback helps.

Veil Guy
