Hard wired install with concealed display - difficult?

I actually did get the remote display at the same time. It seems less distracting, though I have to glance down to read it. In the lower position, it is a little harder to visually discern which band is being active, though the tones convey the same information (I am just learning how it works on my normal commute).
I am really tempted to buy another remote display or two and experiment with different colored LEDs and a soldering gun.
I saw a video of a setup someone had built where they took a remote display and put it inside the mirror on a C-class for a completely contained display which would show through the silvering of the mirror when active and be otherwise invisible.
That seemed very cool and now I understand how they probably did it.

Although, I have driven with a V1 for so long (about a decade and a half) I don't rely at all on the visual identifications. The shortest path to ones brain, IMO, with a detector is its sound. In most cases, my foot is already hitting the brake before I visually check the detector.

I've seen the multi-color customized jobs for the V1 and they are intriguing and would certainly expedite the speed to ascertain which band you are getting hit with in the event you can not make an audible determination alone.

Good luck with whatever way you go. If you happen to get the multi colored led system, please let me know how it turns out.

I believe I have already seen hookups for integrating the V1's alerting into an automobile's in-dash display. I recall reading online a BMW setup that looked pretty cool.

I'm just like you, I rely on the sound of my V1. even though it sits right in the middle of my windshield, I still choose to listen more than look at the display.

Hard wiring has the benefit of mounting the detector higher without having a large coiled cable in the field of view. A friend of mine has a hard wire set up on his trans am and most of the time you wouldn't even know it was there. It also helps to cut down on people following you to leech of your radar detector. So in short hard wire for Stealth, Privacy,Performance.
Ps: Let me know how your setup work its almost identical to what i plan to do.

The setup works very well. With the concealed display, and the very high mounting and lack of dangling cord, it provides a very discreet installation. I really like the uncluttered aspect of it.
