Guys,
I actually experienced this (no overheating was involved, per se) when I was driving around with Steve (happya$$) in the town of Sheffield Village, Ohio.
My [older] Valentine One missed an instant-on hit from an approaching cruiser operating instant-on Ka. Had I not had my Beltronics STi Driver operating at the same time, I would have never even known that the V1 circuitry was in need of a tune-up.
To Valentine Research's credit, they promptly corrected my faulty unit when I had visited their corporate offices in Cincinnati. Ohio later that road-trip.
In fairness to Valentine, my Beltronics STi later missed a 33.8Ghz Ka blast during a road-trip to Florida. I believe this issue was first documented by the GoL sometime earlier.
To Beltronic's credit, they too quickly resolved the issue under warranty for no charge.
Unorthodox as it may sound, that's one reason I sometimes justify operating both in my vehicle concurrently...to provide a check-and-balance system to each other.
A tad bit over the top, you say, perhaps, but (and you can flog me later) I like the running the dynamic duo!
Here's the experience that I had documented of this episode, if either one of you had missed it, when it originally happened:
