Good suggestions. So I have heard some say that RD's don't work as good behind the tint strip and some that say it works fine. If I were to use something like a visor clip it would be behind the tint strip. Do they or do they not work as well behind the tint?
With respect to RADAR reception/detection, as long as your vehicle's tint strip is not metallic in nature, you'll be fine.
LIDAR detection will be somewhat reduced, if the actual laser sensor is behind the tint (Mike Valentine describes *all* windshields akin to putting on sunglasses - and tint strips furthering this effect), but given the near-futility of "detecting" laser, I would hedge your bets, and just get the detector, itself, as high as you can go, to optimize RADAR reception.
I would source detector hardwire power from an accessory which switches on/off with the engine. This way, you reduce the chances of draining the battery, accidentally, if you were to have forgotten to switch off the detector upon leaving the vehicle for a prolonged period. Additionally, I do *not* recommend wiring in to any "essential" accessory, such as the windshield wipers, just in case something goes really wrong.
The radio is actually not a bad way to go, as the detector's draw is typically insignificant. Similarly, things like heated seats and the vehicle's 12V-accessory/cigarette lighter fuse are also viable taps.
The use of an "Add-A-Circuit" or "Add-A-Fuse" type device can further make both the wiring easier, as well as make for a more fail-safe scenario. This fuse-device is easily had at your local automotive parts retail chain. Asking for it by-name will usually get you someone who knows what the item is, and can point you to it.
Finally, if you're using a "questionable" (in terms of legality) mounting solution, I would highly recommend that you wire-in a discrete remote mute as well as "Kill" switch, placed within easy reach, as you would any other vehicle primary control.
You don't want to be reaching all over the place either during an alert engagement nor during a traffic-stop, be it trying to silence your detector or "removing and stashing."
That kind of behavior, when viewed from the outside of the vehicle, will draw a high level of suspicion from the enforcer, and during the traffic stop, can easily escalate what would be an otherwise "all normal" situation. Remember, trained eyes can easily see inside the vehicle - but when you're frantically reaching and motioning, even the best eyes can miss the actual actions and/or mis-interpret intent. You don't want an otherwise relaxed traffic stop escalating with suspicion that you may be hiding contraband.
Awesome. Yeah add-a-fuse is just what I need, Until then I will just replace the 12v accessory or lighter fuse. I think I will mount the RD up high behind the tint and see how it works. And I understand the "fumbling" around when getting pulled over....the cop would be suspicious from the start. Great suggestions man!

You should be able to do the old installer's trick - after stripping approx. 1/4 inch of insulation, twist and flatten the braided copper wiring, and literally "jam it in" to one of the contact slots for the fuse you pull out. This will both allow you to pull power to your detector, as well as will allow you to still power your desired vehicle accessory, and will be a perfect bridge-gap until you get to the auto store, to get the "Add-A-Circuit."

As with VEIL Guy and others, I am among those who believe that the solution should incorporate just as much thinking inside the cabin as it did outside the vehicle.
Yeah I just got my RD in the mail, and am eager to set it up. So when you mean "jam" do you mean with the fuse in the hole too? You know, so that the fuse and the wire from the hardwire kit are in the slot?
