I drive a dodge ram pickup so I think mounting on the dash will be fine.
In terms of RADAR, I think you'll be just fine. For LIDAR, with a dash-mount on such a vehicle, you'll likely catch more of the "certain hits," but know that the detector's capability to see "over" downroad vehicles - and thus catching scatter/reflections - will be compromised.

I just didn't know how much clearance the detector needs.
Don't sweat this too much.

"Eyeing it" will do you just fine.

Just make sure that the detector has a good, unobstructed, "line of sight," and you'll be fine.

Default Another question

After sitting in my truck I noticed that if I were to put the RD on my dash right in front of the windshield it would be hard to reach if I needed to change volume/settings. Would it be ok to mount it closer to the driver on the dash somewhere close to the steering wheel? This way it would sit a little bit higher but would be sitting about 1 ft from the inside of the winshield. Does it need to be right up close to the windshield for a nice view?

My other option would be to put it above the RVM just below my tint strip....I would just have to figure out how to hardwire it.

Default Options

FortyTillFive,

I think if you mount it above on the windshield, just below the Tint Line, and run the wire down your stripping on the truck and hard wire it would be your best option. That way the radar detector can be unhooked if need be and taken down. Plus the higher the radar detector, the better you are of picking up K,and Ka bands versus it being low on the dash. This way the detector can see out much better.

Yeah after going back and forth, I think that is the best option. The only dilemma I am faced with is which fuse to use in the fusebox. I hear of people using the radio fuse but I don't want to lose power to my radio. I see other fuses marked seatbelt etc.. I am wondering if I can just replace one of those fuses...

Default Radar Detector Mounting Location

Another discreet location that I like is close to the driver's side A-pillar close to where the vehicle registration/inspection stickers are typically found.

While there tends to be a bit or a leftward facing angle, I found this spot to be especially discreet, with the power cables running along the base of the A-pillar and down to the floor area under the dash where power taps tend to exist.

Good look with your choice.
