Unhappy Should I fight this speeding ticket?

I was following my boyfriend's truck and saw the siren lights go on ahead of him and he was instructed to pull over (he pulled to the left shoulder). Being that I was travelling with him I pulled over about 250 feet down the road on the opposite shoulder to wait for him.

The officer then instructed him to move his car to the left shoulder behind me. Once doing this he was given a ticket for speeding. Following this, the officer walked up to my car and asked if I was travelling with truck/my boyfriend's vehicle. I said, "yes" and at that moment was told I was receiving an 80 in a 70 as well (just like him).

the Case Report indicates 80 in a 70mph zone using Pro Laser speed monitoring device at a distance of 1064 feet.

I think its bogus that he ticketed me as well and I don't think I was going 80, but do I have any room to fight this ticket with the Pro Laser info listed above?

Thanks for any guidance!

Laurie

Cool Fight it!

Laurie,

The officer probably did get your boyfriend, but unless he targeted you and got two separate speed readings it will be thrown out in court. Officers have to have a speed reading and show that you were indeed speeding in court. Since His eye's are not calibrated he cannot write the ticket. He only got one car speeding not 2 cars. Go to court and ask to speak with the judge in his or her chambers. Or plead your case in court. Chances are the cop will not show up and it will be thrown out. Also remember Laser Guns make errors just like radar does. Showing up and fighting your ticket is half the battle. Tell your boyfriend to get a good Laser jammer, so this doesn't happen again.
