I'm with Robert, as a new member to the forum it's great to see such enthusiasm here and real product support from the Beltronics and Escort teams. I've come close to dancing (angrily) on top of a Cobra due to the fact that every time it went off I had already visually seen the speed trap! So it went back and I've been researching alot about what to put on my 2009 WRX. Although the increased function of the Bel STI is awesome, it's an extra $200 for the stealth, and I really don't mind they know I have a radar detector as long as they can't prove I was speeding, haha. So the RX65 has been in my main view currently, but I have yet to pull the trigger on getting it. Any input about what a solid buy is? I can't really justify the remote external systems at this time; So I'm more looking at window mounts with top end range and off axis location. I have also ordered some of that incredible VEIL G4 so I stand a chance of a laser tag. Thanks for all the great info and reviews guys!

Hi Mirrorless,

The RX65 is a splendid radar detector and it is a solid buy. The RX65 of course is available with either a red or a blue LED display. The choice is mostly a matter of personal preference, but there is one reason why you might want to pony up for the somewhat more expensive blue display. If you are either slightly far sighted or if your are older, you may find that your eyes have trouble focusing on nearby objects at night such as your illuminated car stereo which are illuminated with red LEDs. If you notice this problem then the blue display is for you. Why? Because, due to chromatic aberration within the human eye, blue light comes to a focus at a shorter distance within the eye. Thus the deep blue display color helps to compensate for your eye's inability to focus up close at night. In other words, you would find that the blue display is much more readable at night compared to the red display. Now that I am in my mid forties, I now have this problem which I didn't have just 5 years ago.

Thanks for the reply MEM-TEK. I simply liked the blue display better for aesthetic appeal, but also I can agree that blue LED's are far more easy on the eyes. I am searching for the best price on one from an authorized Beltronics dealer due to the many complaints I have heard on forums and feedback about early breakdowns and unwarranted repair bills around $60. It's about 1 in 10 seems to have an issue with the self calibration function or *requires service type issues with in the first year. That said the extra fees for proper warranty service is well worth it in my humble opinion. I'd really like to get a remote/outboard RD, but first things are some upgrades on the new car (intake, downpipe + some on the exhaust); So I can't go all out just yet, but the range on the RX65 seems top of the line for an inboard RD. Any suggestions on best places to buy (*hints at Beltronics rep)?

I think what MEM-TEK meant to say was "you would find that the blue display is much more readable at night compared to the RED display".

In other words, the human eyes design is more sensitive toward blue light.

BTW - MEM-TEK, you might want to look into taking some Lutein (8mg) and Zeaxanthin (4mg) each day. They are for eye health and protect the lens and macular region of the retina from further oxidation damage. Neither can be produced by the body and need to be added to the diet in supplement form. Spinach contains both, but you'd have to eat barrels of it each day to receive the correct amounts of Lutein and Zeaxanthin. This is why most people take them in supplement form. Wishing you best of health
