Default Does it work???

hemslyjo,

Does it send you updated speed traps to your cell phone, or does it just send you speedtraps that were already entered in months ago. How well has it worked for you hemslyjo ??? Because if it works that well, heck I'll give anything a try once.

steagall1000, I'm the creator of Trapster and would be very interested in feedback from you and everyone else on this forum (I just stumbled on across it yesterday, great site!). I work really, really, hard to try and make Trapster the best it can be.

To answer your question, Trapster is a free, real time, peer-to-peer, speed trap sharing system for mobile phones. Here's a little demo on one of many platforms: YouTube - New Trapster Mobile for Nokia SmartPhones. It uses a combination of GPS and WiFi location. You press a button when you see a live trap (i.e. police with radar/laser etc.), other's phones give audio alerts as they approach it. It learns the credibility of both individual traps, and users, over time, based on patterns of reports and other factors. It currently runs on most Nokia smartphones, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile 5/6, many phones that support Java, and any phone that can run WHERE.com (many handsets from Alltel, AT&T, Boost, Helio, metroPCS, and Sprint). Platform support is the biggest challenge, and I'm working to add more as quickly as possible.

If you don't want to download the software to your phone, you can call a toll free number to report a trap, and get alerts via SMS. (standard rates apply).

Trapster doesn't need a million users to be effective, i.e. you don't care if there are traps in Zimbabwe. You only need a few friends in *your* town who are willing to share and contribute.

It does also support alerts for static (like you say, "month old") POIs like red light / speed cams and known speed trap / hiding places, however those are not unique to Trapster. Systems like RoadAngel have been around for many years, and there are plenty of databases of such things to upload to Garmin/TomTom etc.

Thanks again for your interest,

Pete
