Default Red light Cameras coming to NJ

Here's some news to get Bob's panties in a bunch

New Jersey State Legislature just voted to allow Red light Cameras to be used for the next 5 years. cameras can go virtually anywhere.

Legislature passes red light camera law

Expect about 12-20 towns to have cameras by the end of '08.

Default I have a Question?

AL,

Is it true in new jersey/new york that they have speed tracking cameras on their major interstates?? A lady came into my store a week ago and said she got a ticket in new jersey for speeding on the highway. It was sent to her by mail. She said her radar detector goes off when she passes these cameras on the highway. I thought she was joking at first, but she showed me the ticket. I thought it was illegal to put speed device cameras on major interstates?

There are no fixed speed cameras on interstates in NJ / NY - even the new law allowing Red light cameras in NJ doesn't allow for fixed speed cameras to be used.

Without knowing more info, my suspicion is that she's been caught by something else and is possibly confusing a standard traffic camera / false alarm source with a fixed speed camera.

Can you get some more info and let's try to nail it down a bit more.

Default Confused Customer

I didn't think so. I think this lady was alittle on the weird side when she came into my store. I don't have her information so there is no way for me to get in touch with her. Her ticket from what I remember said radar, but nothing about being on a major expressway. Maybe your right AL, it could have been something else but what???. Or maybe she is confused. I hope they never put speed cameras on the major interstates. That would suck.

Fixed Cameras on interstates? Already happened in Arizona and will be spreading out statewide over the next few years. NM talked about it and it's in the works. Same with Texas.

The bigger threat on interstates will come first is mobile photo-radar in vans, and lidar units from officers on bridges. Expect Photo-Lidar from vans to become a lot more widespreadand over the next year too. That's already happening too.
