A good friend of mine who commutes regularly to the Southern tip of the Northern Neck has been pulled over many times by a Spectre equipped LEO who thought he was using a radar detector.

Default Spectre IV

Welcome WilyB,

...Is that to say that your friend was, in fact, not using a radar detector at the time he/she was pulled over be a Spectre IV operator?

That brings me to my next question...what happens in the event that a driver is mis-identified and stopped and asked to produce a radar detector that may not exist?

What happens then? Does the police officer ask to search your vehicle voluntarily? Even if one didn't have a radar detector in possession, what would happen if one refused the request simply if one felt that such a search would be unreasonable?

Well, when pulled over, he rightfully responded that there were no RD that he could surrender to the LEO. He then pointed out that his car has a Sirius radio and that there were some service bulletins out about interferences between Sirius and RDDs.

I was given a trick by a car appraiser: if you have an expensive RD in your car, you should always carry an El Cheapo broken RD, a $15 piece from eBay that you can voluntarily surrender if asked...

Default Stealth Micro Systems: Spectre V RDD

Simply brilliant!

Perhaps one day, the blokes at Stealth Micro Systems will produce a Spectre/Stalcar RDD which can not only identify radar detector usage, but make as well, based upon reception profile analyses and call it the Spectre V RDD.
