Default Calibration?

How are laser guns calibrated? What does the officer need to calibrate the gun and does it require regular service like the gun?

Dron3,

I don't believe lidar guns are calibrated per se, given that the speed of light, for all intents and purposes, is a constant at 3.0 x 10^8 m/s and lidar works on time of (round-trip) flight calculations.

I believe all Gen III and later police lidar guns basically go through a "self-test" on power-up that if failure in indicated makes them unusable until serviced.

Pro Laser 3 self test takes about 20 seconds to complete. When I was firing it, I noticed it checked stuff like "eeprom", etc.

Incorrect, the officer should do a self calibration, this is performed by marking out say 10 meters then shoot the lidar at that point and verify it reads 10 mtrs, if not then the gun needs a service.

This should be performed on a daily basis
