Default DPS Veteran: “Ashamed of Agency”

Camera Fraud Article: DPS Veteran: “Ashamed of Agency”

dpsA 34-year veteran of the Arizona Department of Public Safety has spoken out against the use of photo radar in a Tribune editorial, calling the blind enforcement of “11 over” the speed limit by cameras to be “ridiculous.”

I am ashamed of my former agency engaging in speed traps, something we used to accuse small departments of doing to boost a town’s revenue.

Redflex, American Traffic Solutions, DPS, City of Scottsdale, etc: It’s always all about the money.

Note what it says at the bottom of the article:

"Mesa resident Robert McCarthy served for 34 years with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. After submitting this commentary, McCarthy received a photo enforcement citation in the mail for alleged speeding on Interstate 17. He intends to challenge the ticket in court."

I bet that photo was doctored.

It's unfortunate, but so true for many individuals, businesses, and enterprises.

I am afraid that our cottage industry is not immune from such pressures, either.

Anyone who has been involved in this industry for any period of time should be able to see the greed and win-at-all-costs mentality forces at work, I am afraid, with truth being the first casualty.

Fortunately, though, this is not universal. There are some wonderful exceptions...

The nice thing about truth, however, is that it always tends to find a way to the light. It's just a function of time and an unyielding commitment for good men (and women) to act.

I am optimistic that the photo enforcement enterprise will follow the same trajectory, in time. I trust there are plenty of "good guys" there as well.

My feelings on this are simple: I can get one officer to write 100 speeding fines an hour or I can get him to man robots at schools ect and maybe write 5 tickets a day. Now those 100 tickets could be for doing 85mph in a 75 zone, but the ones at the school don't matter because a 8 year old kid could be crossing the road. The 100 tickets make more money, therefore they count more then the life of a kid!!!!!

Please believe I don't subscribe to what I have just written, but until the plod can prove it is the otherway round, I will always believe the system to be a flop.
