It's been more than three years since we first published our pioneering comprehensive laser detector comparison test and review.

Since that time newer and more capable radar/laser detectors have been introduced into the marketplace including two high-end custom-installed remotes, one hybrid laser detector/jammer, in addition to high-end GPS detectors.

In light of the popularity of our first test we have decided to go another round with improved charting.

Looks like the V1 is still the King on window mounted detectors. You get alot of protection for $399.00. The Escort and Bels did pretty good too.

Very interesting results, VG. No surprise with the Valentine One. I always thought my STi by itself was rather good at picking up LIDAR, especially the Ultralyte(which is what I see primarily used by the NY State Police).

I am hoping the later model STi Drivers actually perform more in line with the other models from Beltronics and Escort. I mean, if the budget Vector series can detect stealth mode, I would certainly expect a detector that runs nearly $500 to do the same.

I am chalking our experiences up to the fact the inventory levels and product movement is likely somewhat lower given that the STi Driver is a specialized radar/laser detector. Come to think of it my STi Drivers both predated the notorious "ramp-up" fix. We'll revisit that model and make any appropriate updates, Vic.
