The main reason I'm getting a new RD is so I don't have to switch back and fourth between cars. The ZR3 is installed in my weekend car so it doesn't do me much good in the daily driver. The idea was to get the 9500i with a ZR4 and veil for the new car and leave the X50 ZR3 combo in the old car. I would probably get Veil for it too.
Ovencleaner the increased sensitivity from the V1 would cause increased falses which could cause me to ignore it when I shouldn't be. I would probably get so annoyed with it that I would have the sound so low I wouldn't be able to hear it.

dario99gst,

OK. That makes sense, then.

BTW, one Veil container can protect anywhere from about 6-10 vehicles.

Please keep us posted on your progress...

So I got bored yesterday and decided to chat with the escort people...

Aaron: Thank you for your interest in Escort! How may I help you today?

you: Aaron I have been reading up on the ZR4

you: when will it be coming out?

Aaron: We are expecting the first shipments to be leaving the factory late summer, early fall....

you: Do you know what improvements if any have been made? I currently have a ZR3 installed in one of my vehicles and need another one for my new one.

Aaron: The entire shifter system has been redesigned for the ZR4. It now can shift the double pulse and "stealth" Atlanta style LIDAR guns.

Then I got cut off and decided to try again.
I asked her if the 9500i and ZR4 combo worked the same as the 9500ci

Shelly: Basically, but better. The 9500ci will have the best detection range available on the market, as well as the best anti-falsing technology available.

Shelly: It has complete stealth, so it is completely electronically invisible to RDD's, or radar detector detectors.

Shelly: The laser shifting technology is also the most advanced available on the market.

you: im not worried about RDD since im in FL but am interested in shifting technology

you: so it does have all the latest advances incorporated into the 9500ci such as being able to shift the double pulse and "stealth" Atlanta style LIDAR guns.

Shelly: Yes it most certainly does. It will shift any laser technology out there.

you: well then my only question would be why the price hike? If im patient and wait for the ZR4 to come out and link it with a 9500i wouldnt that essentially do the same thing as the ci?

you: so why would I want to pay $500 more for the ci just because it can be completely hidden?

Shelly: In essence - yes. They have the same functionality. However, the 9500ci has more features (including stealth), and will have better detection range.

Shelly: Hooking the 9500i up with the ZR4, if you already own the 9500i - is a wonderful idea! The 9500ci is designed for people who want the stealth capabilities, as well as the other advanced features, such as the anti falsing true lock capabilities, etc.

Shelly: Its simply the best custom installed unit on the market. The ZR4/9500i combo will also give you maximum detection, and laser shifting capabilities, so either way - you really can't go wrong.

you: In FL "stealth" is not a motivating factor. I would spend more money for the better detection range but the 500 is kind high.

Shelly: I understand completely. So for you, maybe the ZR4 and 9500i is the way to go!

Since it seems that this is going to be the way to go does anyone have any more info on the "anti falsing true lock capabilities, etc." that she is talking about? Is it worth me paying the extra money for the ci??? (In essence I would be paying not only for the extra features but also for the convenience of being able to have it now instead of waiting for the ZR4)

Default Passport 9500ci versus Passport 9500i, ZR4 Pairing

dario99gst,

When I was introduced to the Passport 9500ci at CES 2008 by Escort, my understanding was that the anti-falsing capability is basically an automated form of the Passport 9500i's manual lock-out feature using the GPS capabilities of the system.

Basically what it amounts to is when you approach a known stationery source of radar (like an X or K-band door opener or drone) several times in the course of your travels, the Passport 9500ci will auto-mute (eg. lockout) that particular radar band. In other words, it's my understanding that the Passport 9500ci essentially creates a known false "map", automatically.

Sounds like a promising use of GPS functionality, if you ask me, whether this capability (along with a stealth operation and installation) is worth the "extra" $500 will ultimately be up to you.

Having such a unit installed in an upper-level automobile (their likely target audience), I believe will be desired by many...I think there's a certain cache to having a remote installed radar detector in a vehicle.

Will it help with deterring would-be floggers trying to get a "free-ride" off your radar detector? Likely.

Here is my recommendations to you

Keep your current setup

Keep your ZR3 but replace your RD with the V1

I would stay away from the 9500i if I were you. The 9500i is built on the same platform as your X50 so the only added thing you would be getting is GPS. On the other hand if you can afford it the 9500CI it will have the same sensitivity as the STI-R and the STI-R has been out overseas for a while now and my sources tell me its sensitivity is as good and even better on some bands than the V1!
