For what it's worth, I have had terrific real-world experiences with the new laser shifter zr4 (in combination with Veil) including getting saved from a two frontal shots over the memorial day weekend and one from the rear.
The latter one was especially impressive as I was traveling well above the posted limit and had it not been for both the rear zr4 shifter head (and veil g4 on the rear-tail lights) I would have most certainly been tagged with a nice ticket.
Like 99gst said, no, you won't turn off the complete system, if you shut-down the jamming output.
In addition to being able to effect shut-down of the jamming output during the actual LIDAR encounter (i.e. to properly disengage from the threat, once you've reached PSL or "reasonable), you can also set the device to "Receive Only" mode, which, as the words describe, you will only receive LIDAR alerts, but the unit will not actively respond to jam the threat. The unit can also be set to "Off," entirely.
