Actually I have an update on this. The report that the 9500ci will not work unless the ZR4 heads are plugged in is FALSE! All that happens is that during the self-diagnostics tests the 9500ci will tell you that the heads are in error. So it was an exaggeration from whomever started this rumor

yeah that would be me. I was told that it will give constant annoying alerts if the ZR4 is not plugged in. I hope I am wrong!
