Please review the information that I'd cross-posted, via RadarDetector.net, of MEM-TEK's technical analysis of this very issue/concern that you are voicing.
That post he made CLEARLY explains all of your concerns.
- why the mounting bracket/screws may appear in different orientation
- what is the "default" orientation
- why the default orientation may need to be altered based upon your specific setup, to gain perhaps even further tactical advantage.
MEM-TEK is not just making wild claims. He's among those that have INTIMATE knowledge of the ZR4 and its workings, and is perhaps the *ONLY* person, to-date, to have specifically dissected (disassembled) the ZR4 for analysis.
Additionally, among the community, not only is his knowledge of Escort products paralleled/equaled by few, but he is also again the *ONLY* person, to-date, who has physically been able to IMPROVE upon the performance of the ZR4 with his own enthusiast-level modifications, which were then cross-confirmed by other independent hobbyists in quantitative tests.
Again, please re-read my post on page 2 - post #10. All your concerns have been addressed there, courtesy of MEM-TEK. Please *read* that post.
Just glad to pass-along the information - it seemed like there was a bit of debate/hesitancy from our new member triplem....I just wanted to reassure him that this information that we have is based on solid backing, not from speculation.
Unfortunately, it's not the first time that Escort's reps have been wrong or have given misinformation in this respect. As a long-time Escort product user, I do wish that the "quality" aspect of their C/S and also tech-support would be improved to at least match the level of understanding that we have here in the enthusiast community.
I don't expect their techs/reps to know "everything" - I just expect them to know everything about THEIR product.
