I installed my rear head in accordance with what the installation manual showed: the raised portion to the right, when facing the rear LP. I wonder, is there a right or wrong way to mount the rear head?
Escort did review my 9500ci/zr4 install when we were at their facility and no mention was made of the mounting head.
Perhaps this one requires a follow-up...

Funny you should mention that...
I emailed Customer Service regarding this very question not long after I made my last post. I am awaiting a response from them. Very interesting indeed! When I looked at the rear head, there were no directions indicating which side was up, as is on the front heads (they are CLEARLY labeled as such). Perhaps there is no "up" side??? I guess we'll find out soon enough!
vschuel and Veil Guy, I'm glad you brought this up. I initially had my rear jammer installed in the direction as vschuel but on the upper screws of the plate. I reviewed the installation video after an unsuccessful rear jamming attempt and it showed the guy mounting it on the bottom set of screws with the raised part on the left of the license plate as you face it, so I changed mine to match the one in the video. Hopefully we can get a definitive answer from Escort. I've found the customer support reps not too knowledgeable.
I started off in that thread with a question about this very concern on page 2, post #20.
MEM-TEK - who has physically dissected the ZR4, and is now well-known for his homebrew improvements to the ZR-series jammers' performance - then weighs-in, definitively, on page 5, post number 41:

So, they decided to flip the mounting brackets around.
Anyway, technically, the "right side up" orientation for the ZR4 (and ZR3) rear shifter head is such that the bubble is on the right side when looking at the installed shifter head. This is optimal if the rear shifter head is mounted at the bottom of the license plate since the internal bottom mounted circuit board prevents IR emitter radiation from escaping downward, reflecting off of a vehicle surface, and feeding back into the IR detectors. Now, it occurs to me, that I might actually want to flip my ZR4's rear sensor since I have it mounted at the top of my plate and since above my rear plate is a lot of metallic gold painted car surface.
So, thanks to you-un's discussion, I have something else to test at the upcoming Atlanta Jammerfest! Hmm...I will look into similar issues for other jammer models. After all, whatever we can learn and put to good use -- the better!
Based on the internal configuration/orientation of the circuit-board and LED elements, as well as analysis of the "tactical" situation, I totally agree with what MEM-TEK posted above.
