GB,
This is my first post since the event...and yes, it was very intense.
So much so, that I wasn't capable of blogging the experiences by the end of the fourth day.
The memories from this experience will likely last a lifetime...not soon to be forgotten.
I was privileged to have made some new and fascinating friendships with an eclectic group of individuals.
My Bimmer took a heck of a lot of beating, but managed to hang in there, I am happy to say...thanks to the wonderful support we received from BMW of Dallas, TX and Sandia, NM. The level of support we received from two different dealerships means only one thing--great corporate vision--the kind that comes from BMW racing experiences.
Roy and I managed to keep our traffic pull-overs to one. Not too shabby considering we traveled about 3000 miles oftentimes moving at a very good clip...not too sure I should really go into details. Interestingly enough we didn't encounter one police lidar speed trap the entire trip, although other cars did, I was told.
During the "run" from OK to NM we may have made the NCIC and I felt more police/traffic enforcement presence than I believe I ever have. Between critical enforcement areas, I was sure to give them "five under" because I knew they would likely be ticketing for one mph over. As it turned out, the AM Vanquish team got nailed for three over...they sure weren't messin' around and I got some of the biggest stares I have ever gotten from officers who lit me up with radar while I was doin' five under! Another team got pulled three times in one day. We heard reports of up to seven cars being pulled at one time...ouch!
I hired a friend of mine (a former Fox News war correspondent) to prepare an event video which should be posted shortly and I will try to post some interesting PICs from the rally.
Leon and Ray's Mustang was simply awesome, I must say. I believe it was the best sounding vehicle on the track by far...better than the AM Vanquish which sounded terrific as well. Ray certainly knows how to build (and drive) a capable road/race car.
I was invited to do a Baja 1000 run, not sure though if I will actually do that one. I believe Leon and Ray will do an upcoming Cannonball/One-Lap event. Leon has certainly been bitten by the "bug" and now has the need for speed!
Many thanks go to "JJ" and Martin for orchestrating an unforgettable event.
