A unique feature of the Multanova makes detection even more difficult. It's the only speed camera with a radar beam that's polarized vertically, rather than circularly or horizontally. Radar detectors have antennas optimized to receive the circularly-polarized signals used by all U.S.-made traffic radar. A vertically-polarized beam drives them nuts. This is why a few savvy European drivers--where Multanovas have been fixtures for three decades--tilt their detectors at right angles to the roadway. This aligns the radar detector antenna with the speed camera's radar beam and increases detection range by 50 percent or more.

Craig, I am curious, what's the corollary to this phenomenon? Have you examined what impact the rotation of one's radar detector 90 degrees [has] to conventional police radar?
Given the much higher power output of convention police radar [relative to the
Multanova 6F] and the fact that the radar beams are wider and typically face more directly the direction of the carriageway, I would expect that while absolute detection range sensitivities may drop, they will not drop by 50% or more. Is this a correct assumption on my part?
Also, what you are saying is that POLARIZED POLICE RADAR is soon coming to the states!
Sounds like Arizona needs to wake up and vote your wonderful governor OUT of her office and provide her a one way ticket to France or some other country that doesn't have much regard to the precepts of our Constitution/Bill of Rights.
Multanova Speed cameras coming to Arizona
It only figures that other states are going to follow.
Every driver who cares about his or her individual rights needs to
join the National Motorists Association so they can have the grassroots support and resources to
lobby against these things.
Speed on green and other automated photo enforcement technology which further erodes our civil liberties must not be too far behind.
It also appears that Arizona's for-profit companies are looking into speed monitoring that conventional radar detectors will be rendered useless:
Photo-enforcement company growing fast.
In these cases, countermeasures like the GPSmirror from
Speedcheetah products by Cheetah Advanced Technologies Ltd and license plate covers from
Ontrack Automotive may be the only effective solutions, at least until these things can be defeated in our courts.
This is
worse than a bad dream!
