Hey Veil Guy,
I actually did get the remote display at the same time. It seems less distracting, though I have to glance down to read it. In the lower position, it is a little harder to visually discern which band is being active, though the tones convey the same information (I am just learning how it works on my normal commute).
I am really tempted to buy another remote display or two and experiment

with different colored LEDs and a soldering gun.
I saw a video of a setup someone had built where they took a remote display and put it inside the mirror on a C-class for a completely contained display which would show through the silvering of the mirror when active and be otherwise invisible.
That seemed very cool

and now I understand how they probably did it.
