I have other things I want to plug into the cigarette lighter and I don't want to add a splitter to the clutter. Primarily I want to minimize clutter. I plan on mounting it up high, and using the concealed display down low to allow me to see the arrows, without having lots of people following me. I figure it may also reduce negative attention, as you point out.
I have heard mention on another forum of someone who modifies the remote display to use different colored LEDs. That sounds like a very useful modification, to streamline comprehension of which bands are in use. It seems much wiser to modify a relatively cheap add on component than the detector itself.
