The Uniden is programmed to alert to the fixed frequencies used by mobile extenders, the low-powered vehicle-mounted transmitters used to link an officer's walkie-talkie with the cruiser's powerful two-way radio.
The feature was first used in the Colt CHiPs detector, a scanner into which these mobile extender frequencies could also be input. Designed by Phil Henry, this scanner was later acquired by Uniden, redesigned and repackaged as the BCT-10 BearTracker, later replaced by the BCT-12.
In its heydey it was great. But no more. You can read the
Uniden BearTracker BCT-12 scanner review on my Web site.
