Sounds like you had a defective V1. I've had mine since 2001 and sent it in for the newest software update. Never once has heat/cold or anything bothered it. I know people who have had there's for 12 years and no problems. Don't settle for a RX65. Stay with the V1.. Its twice the detector the Bel is. Also you might look at the new Blinder M-25 for laser protection. No radar detector will save you from a laser speed trap!!!
