Default Laser Diode Jammers in the U.S. Market

dario99gst,

I haven't experience the new ZR4 as yet, so I am afraid, I can only offer an educated guess.

From the users that I have known personally, I believe the ZR3 has performed admirably and reliably over years of operating service, so I would hope and expect that the ZR4 should potentially perform, at least as well.

The Passport 8500 X50 is a terrific radar detector and has very good laser reception performance as well.

My question is why are you worried? Have either of these two units not provided adequate protection over a period of time?

Or is you worry stemming from perception by reading and video watching online?

While, I can understand your enthuisiasm for another laser jammer like the Laser Interceptor (LI) from some of the videos, I would recommend that you take them with a grain of salt.

Roy's videos and the GOL videos of the "eye-popping" performance were based on pre-production prototypes that were still being programmed for laser guns that it was incapable of detecting or jamming at the time.

In my opinion, they should have never been released to the public, because they were not production products, and may have served to mislead would-be laser jammer purchasers.

That's why, I believe, established reviewers in the industry have not reviewed them (or other similar products).

You will find support for these products online on other forums (sponsored by certain online-dealers selling these products).

I have resisted the temptation to speak about them and other similar products that are trickling into the US (through these unscrupulous "dealers") as they are patent-infrining products to Blinder which holds them (in the US and abroad).

Fast forward a year later or more later (to today) and I have heard of reports of routine and frequenct failure of such "dazzling" performance units.

What's the point of owning a 'high-performance" product if it is always in the shop?

Furthermore, I understand that when some of these units fail in the field, the systems are indicating that there is no problem, so an owner may not even be aware of their compromised jammer system. Blinder, for example, has an extensive self-checking and diagnostic system to indicate potential operating problems. These kind of diagnostic systems are essential and appear only in mature systems that are "over-engineered" (instead of being over-driven).

For these (and other) reasons, I have been sticking with the majors...the established players that have been in the jammer business for years, have paid their dues, and continue to support their products over a long-established period of time. These players include: Beltronics, Escort, and Blinder.

BTW: I believe Don of Cheetah USA has some new information about the LI that you referred to, that you might find informative:

LI Problem: Laser Interceptor DEAD heads but control box says all okay!

Bottom line: I believe you are in a good place with the existing equipment you have...Stick with the established players.

I hope this perspective helps you out and good luck with whatever you choose...Veil will work with any of them, quite well.
